Ruger Americans are known to be finicky feeders. The HV Mag System solves that. It is a complete drop-in upgrade kit that replaces the factory magazine and bottom metal with a purpose-built setup that feeds and cycles smoothly, round after round. No more failures to feed. We build it for the AR-style magazine guns and for bottleneck cartridges like the .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor, which use a different factory magazine and can feed just as poorly from the box. It fits both Gen 1 and Gen 2 rifles and easily installs with the included hardware.
As a bonus, the HV magazine can run longer ammunition that the factory AR magazine cannot. Up to 2.600" COAL on the 350 and 400 Legend, so you can shoot our extended-length HV loads and/ or seat heavier bullets. It installs at home with basic hand tools, and we include full directions to walk you through it.

Will this fit my Ruger American?
Yes. The HV Mag System is built for the Ruger American and fits both Gen 1 and Gen 2 rifles. Just choose the caliber group that matches your cartridge.
Which caliber should I choose?
Pick the group from the dropdown that contains your cartridge. Each kit is built for cartridges that share the same bolt face and feed geometry, so the group, not just the single caliber, is what matters.
Is it hard to install?
No. It is a bolt-on upgrade you can do at home with basic hand tools. The kit includes the bottom metal, latch, and bolts, and we provide written step-by-step directions. Torque the action screws to 60 in-lbs when you reinstall.
Why not just use the factory magazine?
The factory AR-style magazine is a common source of feeding problems on the Ruger American, and it hangs well below the stock. The HV Mag System fixes the feeding, sits nearly flush (about a quarter inch of protrusion), and feeds extended-length ammo up to 2.600" COAL.
What is different about the 450 Bushmaster kit?
The 450 Bushmaster kit ships with a 2-round MDT flush-fit magazine instead of the 3-round HV magazine. Everything else in the kit is the same.
Can I buy extra magazines?
Yes. Additional 350 Legend HV, 400 Legend HV, and 450 Bushmaster MDT flush-fit magazines are sold separately. The 350 Legend HV magazine also feeds 5.56 NATO and 300 Blackout, and the 400 Legend HV magazine also feeds 6mm ARC, 22 ARC, and 6.5 Grendel. See the links in the section above.
What ammo does it feed?
It feeds standard-length ammunition as well as extended-length high-velocity ammo. Maximum cartridge length depends on the magazine: 350 and 400 Legend run up to 2.600" COAL, and the 308-style magazine runs up to 2.820" COAL.

The HV Mag system is such an upgrade from the factory mags. I bought a HV system for my Ruger American Gen 2 .556 and another for my 6.5 Grendel. They were easy to install and the Quality of the component's were top notch. Fit and finish was perfect and the feeding was flawless. I can’t say enough about the quality of the components, the system looks way better than the original factory offering and functions without a hitch. The HV mag system is well worth the price, if you like your Ruger American do yourself a favor and upgrade and I gaurentee you won’t be disapointed!
